History

A legacy of helping businesses grow

BDO was formed in 1963 by five separate and independent firms which were from UK, Germany, the Netherlands, United States and Canada.  They created the Binder Seidman International Group and in 1973 three of the firms Binder Hamlyn (UK) Dijker & Co (Holland) Otte & Co (Germany) adopted a common name BDO.

On the 1st of January 2017, Betham & Co. Chartered Accountants joined the international accounting network firm of BDO.  Betham & Co. began as Betham, Malielegaoi and Stanley in 1981. The three founding partners, Oloipola Terrence Betham, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and Joe Stanley recognized the need for a dynamic and customer-oriented accounting service provider for the Samoan market.

In 1998 the firm changed to Betham & Co. as 2 of the original partners had a desire to continue serving the community through serving the country of Samoa.  However, the reputation and the dynamic customer-oriented legacy of the firm remained and continued to strengthen and succeed culminating in joining the international accounting network firm of BDO in 2017.

Today BDO Samoa is the largest accounting firm in Samoa and serves a diverse market from family businesses to government corporations, corporate entities in various industries and non-for-profits. BDO has been providing balanced thought and the right advice for businesses and customers which is always delivered through our exceptional client service.
